Endowment Sparks Next Generation of Child Development Research
“People make mistakes because they don’t know what to do. We need that knowledge. We need carefully crafted scientific research to answer the questions where we say, ‘we don’t have the answers to that yet.’”
—Bradley Glanville
When Bradley Glanville came to Chico State in 1978 from a research institution, he loved the small nature of the classes he taught, how he could form close relationships with his students, and how he was able to influence curriculum, creating an entire theme around “The Child” and helping create projects like Family University Night, an after-school program that benefitted the greater Chico community.
He often wished he had the resources to undertake more research in his field, but the framework did not exist. Now retired, he’s decided to create that opportunity for someone else. Together with his wife, Kris Zappettini, who also taught at Chico State, he created an endowment to support faculty research into children and child development. At its heart, he said, research is simply embracing lifelong learning.
